Evelyn Chan is a practitioner-scholar in educational technology whose work connects inclusive digital learning, course quality, artificial intelligence, and reflective educational practice.
She works at George Brown Polytechnic in Toronto, Canada, supporting faculty in designing clear, accessible, inclusive, and meaningful learning experiences across postsecondary teaching and learning. Her work increasingly explores how students, faculty, and institutions navigate AI, with particular attention to AI literacy, transparency, student agency, assessment, human judgment, and the movement from institutional guidance into classroom practice. In 2026, she was named the recipient of the CDAG Award of Excellence.

Since publication, AI in Education: Ethics, Literacy, and Interactive Design has continued to inform my conference presentations and work in AI literacy, responsible AI use, and teaching and learning. The book has been shared through presentations at the University of Waterloo Teaching and Learning Conference, the University of Guelph Teaching and Learning Innovations Conference, EvolvED, STLHE, and the Jamaica Diaspora Taskforce Action Network (JDTAN) Education Summit. As an open educational resource, it has reached more than 1,600 readers and generated over 5,500 pageviews since December 2025.
The questions and conversations that followed this work also helped shape my second AI-focused book, The AI Guidance Gap: Teaching, Learning, and Trust When Answers Are Everywhere.
The AI Guidance Gap: Teaching, Learning, and Trust When Answers Are Everywhere explores what happens when students have unprecedented access to AI assistance but still need clarity, judgment, support, and trust to use it meaningfully for learning. Drawing on higher education practice, student and faculty perspectives, AI literacy work, course design, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research, the book examines the AI Guidance Gap across students, faculty, and institutions. It introduces an emerging framework built around Clarity, Transparency, Reflection, Judgment, and Trust, shifting the conversation from detecting AI use toward understanding and supporting the learning process.
It has reached more than 520 readers and generated over 1,700 pageviews since September 2026.
